Metropolitan Police (Forensic Services)

The Metropolitan Police Service is one of the oldest police services in the world and is made up of more than 43,000 officers and staff. The Met is the UK’s largest police service, policing 620 square miles and serving around 8.7 million people in one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse cities. The Met’s purpose has always been to serve and protect the people of London, and in our New Met for London plan our mission is to deliver More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards.

The Directorate of Forensic Services is an integral part of the Metropolitan Police Service, providing an essential contribution to the investigation of crime and the administration of justice. The service employs one of the largest bodies of police staff within the Metropolitan Police Service and is also the largest forensic organisation in the United Kingdom, both within policing and the commercial sector. The Directorate contributes significantly to making London safer, through a wide range of technical and scientific expertise. Our capabilities include:

  • Crime scene examination and management
  • Fingerprint examination
